    After reaching rock bottom, Ed, desperate and alone, drinks himself to the Gate where a ghost from his past flashes by him.

    Winry wakes in what she thinks is purgatory, only to discover it’s the world Ed left her for.

    When they meet again, Ed looks nothing like himself and Winry seems haunted by a past she won’t talk about. Necessity forces them into a reluctant alliance, but how do you heal old wounds when life has broken you down?

    Meanwhile, Roy Mustang is left with a chilling disappearance that could hide a more sinister truth, and the only person who has answers is dead. Or is she?

    I watched CoS, couldn’t accept the ending, sat my ass down and started writing the ending I wanted for Ed and Winry. Featuring a slow burn, a murder mystery, copious amounts of trauma and sassy Fritz Lang.

This is not to take away Hirschfeld’s achievements - far from it. It’s a reminder that our history goes a lot further back than people think, despite attempts to erase this history.

    (Note for Thomas and the Island readers:  If some of this sounds familiar, it’s because this guy influenced Havelock Ellis, who was in turn the inspiration for Dr. L. in the fic.  IIRC, Ellis extensively quotes Hirschfeld’s writings in Sexual Inversion, the book I leaned on when writing about Dr. L.’s treatment philosophy and methodology.)
